Quiet potential

Africa is known as a place of vibrant, colourful commotion: the roar of our wildlife, the buzz of our thriving cities, the beat of our music, the hum of hundreds of languages and cultures - noise is everywhere.

But the continent can also be a place of perfect, still quiet. From open savannahs, to tranquil lakes and silent, coral-dense diving retreats along our tropical coasts, there are many locations that offer quiet escape and contemplation.

But the quality of quiet is not only nature’s reserve; the hallowed, sometimes soundless halls of our many universities hint at the nascent potential of our young population; the look of contemplation on a young, urban girl’s face as she silently reads betray thoughts that could one day power Africa’s growth.

"Quiet” is the next theme in the Show Us Your Africa initiative. Use a gif, image or video to show the continent where and how you see quiet brilliance in your home, town or city, and share it on the Standard Bank Facebook, Twitter or Instagram account with the hashtag #AfricaIsMyHome.
