This Mandela Day, we celebrate a man who was authentic. A man who made real progress, real promises, and a real difference. He was a man who inspired Africa, inspired the world. And inspired the way in which we do business, no matter the obstacles.

At Standard Bank, we strive for transparency. We behave with integrity and remain honest and straightforward, developing client-centric ideas that make a real difference.

Building Africa's history

We played a role in the major international expansion drive that saw iconic and authentic South African company, Famous Brands, acquire UK-based burger chain, Gourmet Burger Kitchen. This multi-million Pound acquisition is the biggest deal concluded by the restaurant franchise group and will see the brand making a global impact.

“We’ve got a phenomenal leadership team that are coming along with us,” says Kevin Hedderwick, Group Strategic Advisor for Famous Brands. He states that there was a great cultural fit between the Standard Bank and Famous Brands teams. “Unashamedly,” he says, “we couldn’t have made a better choice than Standard Bank.”

Making a real difference to graduates

As we celebrated our Standard Bank Graduate Programme running for 20 years, some of our alumni graduates shared their stories about how we helped make a real difference to their careers and moved them forward. “Being part of Standard Bank and taking that first step in their career journey with us has really made a very big and fundamental change to their lives” says Sharon Taylor, Group Head: Human Capital.

Making a real difference to the continent we call home

At a week-long induction series into the graduate programmes, known as the Future Movers Summit, participants took part in a memorable ceremony where they made personal pledges to make a real difference and move Africa forward.

Making a real difference to healthcare

We recently facilitated the R1.7 billion acquisition of the Gateway and Hillcrest Private Hospitals for independently owned private hospital group Busamed, who continues to transform the South African health sector by providing more accessible, world class healthcare. “We want to provide the best care, using the best equipment and technology that’s available in the world”. Dr. Diliza Mji – CEO Busamed Hospital Group

Making a real difference to our markets

We were named Africa’s Best Bank for Wealth Management in the 2016 Euromoney Awards for excellence. Euromoney also named us as the Best Bank in Uganda and in Zambia, and Africa’s Best Bank for Markets. We are delighted with these awards as they reflect out commitment to making a real difference to our clients and serving them with excellence both through our network in Africa, and by linking Africa to markets with investors in the rest of the world.

Making a real difference to our relationships

This year, our Wealth and Investment team won the prestigious Intellidex Award for Best Wealth Manager in South Africa. Maintaining strong client relationships and adhering to the principles of integrity, discretion, transparency and accountability has allowed us to craft effective wealth strategies that defy challenging economic environment. We are very proud to have been recognised for this award, and our focus remains to continue to ensure that the unique goals and aspirations of our clients are met for generations to come.

Our perseverance, passion and authenticity will always play a key role in helping us drive Africa's growth.
