Stochastics and RSI

Help guys. My understanding is that Stochastics and RSI are part of the same family of indicators. Therefore is it valid to use both and to see the one "confirm" the other when in fact they are telling you the same thing and they are working off the same underlying factors?? Would it not be better to use one of the above plus - say - DMI?
