Imagine you were seeing Mzansi, the majestic tip of Africa, for the first time!
You might be overwhelmed at the vibrant sights and bustling sounds, at the many different cultures that make up the melting pot we call home.
For Heritage Month, we invite you to do just that: see your home country through the eyes of a visitor, just like how you return ekasi for your mom’s famous Sunday kos and act brand new.
Allow us to introduce our not-so-official, self-appointed international correspondent, a UK tourist who came to South Africa for a safari just before lockdown and has been stuck here ever since. We think we’re stuck with him, but time will tell.
Somewhere along the line, he fell in love with this place, so when the country opened again, he chose to stay, and we don’t blame him: kumnandi ekhaya. While he’s here, he’s on a mission to discover and learn as much as he can about our country and, more importantly, its people.
Luckily for him, he doesn’t have to do it alone. Enter our guide or co-sterring, if you like, a smooth-talking, lekker-tongued mjita from ekasi who has taken our friend from oorkant under his wing.
When our tourist friend began his stay in SA, he met this local and appointed him as his tour guide. When it became clear that, like a typical relative, he might stay longer than planned, he promoted him to his SA life coach. Credentials? None, other than knowing Mzansi like he knows his kwaito.
These 2 characters will be sharing their discoveries about the unique ways of the people of South Africa with you on behalf of amaBlueBank this Heritage Month. No one does it like us.
Join us on the Standard Bank Facebook, Twitter and Instagram account as we test their knowledge, explored with liberal use of the major defining trait that unites all the diverse cultures of this country: our famous sense of humour as a country. As South Africans, we have a knack, no, a need, to laugh no matter how tough things get. If there’s one thing about us, we are going to laugh through it. If ‘dala what you must’ was a person, it would be every single one of us.
This Heritage Month, we invite you to share in this one-of-a-kind bond that unites us more than what divides us by joining us in laughter and learning. It’s going to be wild and normal, just how you love it.
