Cardboard boxes don't make good mattresses, pavements are hard and soup & water don't make a decent supper. On the night of 18 June, around 250 South African CEO's spent the night out in the cold at the inaugural 702 International CEO Sleep Out. Amongst them were our Group CE, Sim Tshabalala and our Personal and Business Banking CEO, Peter Schlebusch.
The CEO Sleep Out is a global initiative that seeks to answer the plight of the thousands of homeless and raise funds for causes addressing homelessness, including Girls and Boys Town SA. The initiative saw South African leaders coming together to take on a challenge that would change their lives and the lives of the beneficiaries, a truly humbling experience and eye-opener.
To date, R25 million has been raised, which is the single biggest fund raising event in South African history. It was certainly a deeply worthwhile event; let’s keep up the momentum of creating awareness and striving to help the homeless.
