Celebrating the Women of KwaZulu-Natal

Durban 1 November 2019.    The Standard Bank KwaZulu-Natal Top Business Women gala evening will take place on the 6 November at the Elangeni and Maharani Hotel in Durban.

The new initiative aims to showcase the countless achievements of women in KwaZulu-Natal. The Standard Bank KZN Top Business Women is an opportunity to recognise and reward some of the industrious and enterprising female business leaders, entrepreneurs, employees and social change agents in the province.

Imraan Noorbhai, Standard Bank Provincial Head KwaZulu-Natal says, “The Standard Bank Group is committed to help create a gender-equal world. The bank has participated in the HeForShe movement since 2018, which is a UN Women social initiative. HeForShe invites men and women to support gender equality which is a fundamental human right and a business imperative. Consequently, we are delighted to be part of this initiative.”

These women are contributing to their workplaces, to society and to their families in amazing ways. They’re undoing traditional business for the better and implementing technological advances to a changing work environment. They are making a difference in our South African communities by uplifting the lives of many previously disadvantaged people. They are finding innovative solutions to global problems in the areas of climate, health, and waste among others.

Guest speaker for the evening will be Funeka Montjane, CEO, Personal and Business Banking Standard Bank. She is a strong supporter for women’s empowerment and is known at the Bank for encouraging women to overcome any obstacles in their journeys to success or personal fulfilment.

The host for the evening is Vanessa Marawa who is a great example of all that women can achieve. Among other achievements, she is an entrepreneur, model, brand ambassador, TV presenter, and a winner of Survivor South Africa.

Grant Adlam, publisher of the KZN Top Business, says, “Our team has been inspired by the many amazing women whose stories we have heard. These stories are about ordinary women, from many different backgrounds, who have had varied journeys to get to where they are today.  While some have been blessed with many advantages, others have overcome trauma, severe illness, life changing accidents, emotional stress and/or financial hardships to realise their dreams.“

The gala evening will not only emphasize a culture of women’s empowerment but will serve as a showcase of success. It is hoped that this initiative and the recognition afforded will inspire other women to strive to achieve more in their own endeavours.
