After a gruelling year full of excitement and acceleration for Standard Bank IRONMAN’s athletes and supporters, closing this year with the Standard Bank 5150 Ekurhuleni African Championship which took place in Germiston on the 1st of November 2015 was a truly inspirational event.
The brisk early wind was exceptionally challenging which made the swim rather wavey, and the bike and run a little shakey for the athletes. With the weather not playing along in making this race smooth, athletes were eager and ready to go against the current and still maintain their winning attitude.
We would like to congratulate each and every athlete who participated in the 5150 Ekurhuleni African Championship and we are proud to have been part of this experience.
A special mention must go to the category winners Andrea Steyn who was the winner in the women’s category finishing at (02:07:31), and Henri Schoeman who took the glory in the male category finishing at (01:51:03); both dominating and winning the men’s and women’s races respectively for the third consecutive year.
Cindy Schwulst came second in the women’s race finishing at (02:11:10), and Kerryn Grenfell took the third place at (02:17:00). In a well-respected second position for the men’s were Michael Davidson finishing at (01:57:46) and Bradley Weiss taking the third slot on (01:58:01).
With this race being the last one for the year, we wish all the athletes and supporters a festive season.
