Earth Hour is a symbol of commitment
Standard Bank Team
Super Contributor

Standard Bank Group joined individuals, other businesses and governments in 50 countries around the world this weekend in accepting the “I Will If You Will” challenge to support Earth Hour’s push to be an ongoing movement for change.

Earth Hour does not claim to be an energy or carbon reduction exercise. It is a symbolic action for taking ongoing accountability for real solutions to our environmental challenges. Our participation in Earth Hour symbolises our commitment to change beyond the hour.

Standard Bank Group is committed to managing our impact on the environment, whether it be the projects and companies we finance or the products and services we provide. We have the opportunity to finance innovation and make a positive contribution to the climate challenge by lending to companies which ensure that their environmental risks are mitigated as well as financing products that assist our customers to reduce their own carbon footprints.

In 2011, we launched programmes enabling our customers to access carbon credits, installed energy efficient lighting systems throughout our head office complex in Johannesburg, installed photovoltaic systems in two office complexes, and we work tirelessly to raise sustainability awareness among our employees and communities.

Here's to Earth Hour 2014!
