Standard Bank strives to be the leading financial services organisation in, for and throughout Africa. To achieve this, we need to offer our markets exceptional client experiences, solutions of superior value, and, most essentially, engaged, motivated employees guided by inspirational leaders. Lungisa Fuzile is one such leader.
Armed with his Masters of Commerce degree in Economics, Lungisa was appointed Chief Executive of the Standard Bank of South Africa (SBSA) in December 2017, the largest, busiest business within the Standard Bank Group. The new CE is accountable to the board of SBSA, with a reporting line to former CE of the business Sim Tshabalala – now Group Chief Executive Officer.
According to Sim, Lungisa will play an integral role in helping the Group to provide consistently excellent service, meet financial targets and achieve its overall purpose: “Africa is our home and we drive her growth.”
With more than three decades immersed in economics – first as a student studying commerce; then as a tutor and lecturer at his alma mater, the University of Natal; and finally in a Public Service career that culminated in his role as Director General at the National Treasury from May 2011 to May 2015 – Lungisa is an appointment inarguably in line with our commitment to ensure we have the people and the skills to give our customer base, and Africa, what it needs.
At the time of his appointment, Fuzile said, “I look forward to…making a meaningful contribution to the success of SBSA and the Group as a whole.”
