Nearly 300 dedicated educationalists are attending the “Inspired Teachers Conference” at Mitchells House School, Polokwane, this weekend. Standard Bank South Africa has partnered with leadership development company and organiser of the conference QualityLife in bringing the conference to Polokwane.
Education is at the heart of developing our nation and Standard Bank makes it a priority to contribute to making education a lot more accessible: be it in the form of literacy programmes or affordable financial loans.
But inspired teachers remain the key to a great education system and in preparing youth to step into their future roles.
In 2012, the growing crisis in South African education took centre stage in the media. Challenges range from lack of textbooks and poor infrastructure to insufficient and low quality teachers as well as a lack of leadership skills. Addressing our education crisis requires a critical and creative approach that acknowledges the complexity of the problem.
All too often the primary drivers of effective education – teachers – are left out of the conversation. The enormity of the crisis weighs heavily on teachers and often their successes are unsung, leaving them feeling deflated and demotivated.
The Inspired Teachers Conference aims to redress this by celebrating teachers who light up a classroom. The first conference of the year, the Polokwane programme features award winning teachers and principals facilitating conversations on leadership, technology, innovation and creativity in the classroom. The conference is solution-oriented and focuses on the positive.
