Standard Bank celebrates with Top Women Awards

We understand the importance of recognising and celebrating women, which is why we are honoured to be the headline sponsor of the 2014 SA Top Women Awards.

Two years ago, our very own Funeka Montjane was honoured with a statue from the Top Women Awards that celebrated her contribution to South African business.

This year’s Top Women Awards gala event took place on 14 August in Johannesburg and this spectacular event saw some of the most innovative and dynamic women being honoured.

Special credit went to journalist and activist, Juby Mayet who received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to journalism and advocating freedom of speech for women in South Africa.
Other accolades in the individual category awards were the Top Young Female Entrepreneur of the year, which was won by Recruit Group Founder and CEO Laura Reynolds; Nonkululeko Gobodo was named Top Businesswoman of the Year 2014.

To be eligible for nomination, candidates had to have an average of R35 million in turnover, a minimum of 30 percent of staff employed being female, female ownership of 20 percent and above, 10 percent and above of females in top senior management, and 1 to 1.5 percent per capita expenditure on training, education, and development of women in the relevant industry.

The awards were facilitated by a prestigious panel of judges that consisted of PetroSA Director, Adv. Brenda Madumise, Brand SA CFO, Alice Puoane, South African Institute of Professional Accountants Chairperson, Shirley Olsen, and Pfizer Corporate Affairs, Policy, and Communications Director, Leigh Gunkel-Keuler.

These awards reflect the wealth of female talent in the public and private sector and Standard Bank is proud of an initiative that celebrates their success.
