Standard Bank has won the 2009 Business Day/BASA Award for International Sponsorship for the exhibition, Marlene Dumas: Intimate Relations.
This makes it four Business Day/BASA awards in a row for Standard Bank, having also secured awards for the Chagall exhibition in 2001, the Miro exhibition in 2003 and Picasso and Africa in 2006.
All four of these exhibitions were highly acclaimed by both the press and the public. These exhibitions drew record numbers of visitors to the Standard Bank Gallery, affirming Standard Bank’s identity as a leading patron and sponsor of the arts and its commitment to making meaningful connections with local and international art communities.
The International Sponsorship category recognises those businesses sponsoring South African arts abroad, as well as those businesses who bring international art projecst to South Africa, giving the public access to work they otherwise would not have seen.
This year the finalists in this category were Standard Bank for Marlene Dumas: Intimate Relations and Zamexpo for artSpace, Durban.
