The talent hunt
SBGroup
Community Coordinator

Employees are the heartbeat of any organisation and finding the right candidates is essential. That is why an organisation’s recruitment department plays an important role. At Standard Bank Group, our recruitment specialists are called resourcing consultants, and it’s their role to make sure they source the right talent to the join the greater Standard Bank Group team.

Consultants work with business units to gain a better understanding of their recruitment needs and requirements. They help find suitable candidates by advertising job vacancies across a wide range of media, by networking, headhunting and through referrals. They screen candidates, interview them, do background checks and finally match them to the business unit needs.

The consultants are a vital link between the line manager in the business unit, and the candidate. The role of a resourcing consultant is demanding and diverse, and involves a few of the following elements:

  • Use business development, marketing, networking techniques and sales to attract candidates
  • Develop a good understanding of various sub-industries (for example IT), what they do and their work culture and environment
  • Use candidate databases to match the right candidate with the right vacancy
  • Receive and review applications, manage interviews and tests, ask for references, and create a shortlist for line managers
  • Organise interviews
  • Inform candidates about the results of their interviews and negotiate salary rates
  • Finalise arrangements between line managers and candidates
  • Work towards and exceed targets relating to the number of candidates they’ve placed, the time it took to fill the role, and the reduced cost at which they filled the role
  • Review recruitment policies to make sure that selection techniques and recruitment programmes are effective.
