We're big in Uganda
Standard Bank Team
Super Contributor

Stanbic Bank is big news in Uganda. We have the largest presence from a branch and ATM perspective and also lead the bank tables as measured by market share, assets and profitability.

It’s a great place to be but the competition is watching us closely. Stanbic Bank, which is a member of Standard Bank Group, is mentioned in our competitors’ boardrooms as they discuss how to make the most of the Ugandan economy. It's an economy that has grown by an average of 6.9% over the last 10 years.

In our boardroom we’re debating how to maintain our market share and grow the banking population. We’re focusing on how we can demonstrate that we can add value for our customers in Angola.

But, having the most ATMs and branches shouldn’t stop us from adding more. This year we’re be opening seven new branches and booting up 44 new ATMs.

There’s a strong Chinese community in East Africa and we’ve even opened a branch in the heart of “Chinatown” in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. There, our staff speak Mandarin and it’s a place where our Chinese customers can feel at home.

Without the people of Uganda, there’d be no Stanbic Bank. While the country has a stable economy and a growing middle class, half the population still live on less than US$1.25 a day.

This is why you’ll see us getting involved in community work - our long-term involvement in Nama Village building homes for people, donations to flood victims or sponsoring the Kampala Kids League.
