What social media (now) means to us

It was only natural to take Standard Bank Group (SBG) into social media marketing.

Back in the day (time passes so much more quickly online) it was a strange phenomenon only whispered about within the marketing fraternity.

At SBG, we could not deny that the way we all viewed the world was changing. Rather than continue to only whisper about social media marketing, we started shouting it out within the walls of our offices.

Granted, we weren’t the first. But we have to thank the many pioneers of social media marketing who provided us (and other marketers) with the lessons, direction and encouragement to outdo them.

Social media for us has now gone beyond marketing. It has become another way of connecting with our customers, potential customers, employees, investors and even simply those seeking advice. We are now using social media to talk about issues beyond banking…issues that concern everyone, such as the environment and communities in need.

Social media gives everyone a voice, and we are privileged to be able to be part of the global online communities.
