IBAN number

I am also looking for the IBAN number and I don't know why it is so difficult to get a straight answer. The swift code for Standard Bank is SBZAZAJJ.

The IBAN number should apparently consists of a 2 digit country code, 2 check digits and up to 30 alphamnumeric characters for the domestic bank account number - all written with no spaces. But why Standard Bank replies cannot just supply the first 4 digits and tell us to add our account details at the end is beyond my understanding. All the answers appear to be in code! Its like being stuck in an electronic loop. Get your act together Standard Bank, for heaven's sake.

I really think that the correct reply for this would be:

South Africa does not subscribe to IBAN so your normal account number and SWIFT/BIC(SBZAZAJJ) will apply.......advising to click on a link that shows a normal account number does not actually answer the question!

Hello @grantcarlsson

Please be advised that IBAN numbers are required when sending money to beneficiaries abroad, in this case the IBAN number will be provided directly by the beneficiary, however, when receiving money a Swift code will then have to be provided together with your banking details. The Standard bank swift code is SBZAZAJJ. If a beneficiary is not certain on the IBAN number, he/she can contact their branch to obtain this information. Please visit: http://www.standardbank.co.za/standardbank/Personal/Banking/Foreign-Exchange/Payments-and-transfers/... for more information.
