My wife and I and our daughter, aged 9 years, are UK citizens but have lived in SA since 2007. I bank with Standard Bank and my wife has cards and access to my accounts (UK have joint accounts). We are all permanent residents but my daughter has not yet got an ID number only a UK passport and PR. I want to open a tax-free savings account for my wife and daughter.
Does my wife need a bank account in her name only ? Does my daughter need a SA ID number before I can open a tax-free account for her ?
I work for the SA government but it took about 7 years to get an ID number so I hope to get one for my daughter in time for her matriculation ..
