Transfers between accounts

Hi,

I have two questions...

1) I'm well aware that a transfer from one SBSA account to another can take up to 24 hours. Please could someone explain where the money goes during that time? It's gone from one account and it's not yet in the other, it doesn't disappear, where is it? If the reason was, for example, that there are millions of transactions being processed and the computers or software are not the best, how would it be removed from the transferring account immediately?

 2) A transfer from a current account to a credit card account used to be almost immediate, now it can take days, what happened?

Thanks,

Mike
