I have had the same problem and phoned the bank. I was told that instead of using the app I can access my accounts (in my case on my old iPad) via the internet (standardbank.co.za), and by doing this I will be able to access them in the same way as I do when using my laptop.

I was forced by the app to update it but the update requires IOS 11 or higher and my iPhone 5S can only upgrade to IOS 10. Please tell me that provision is made for people with older phones?
