This was a bit of a curve ball.
Wonder why he left Vodacom then.

I know but didnt mean it that way. Just meant that why join the rival company, he started Vodacom thats his company which he started. (which if you believe his book he alone built from scratch).
If he was looking for work back in Telecoms why not go back to vodacom, even as a non-exec?
Did he really leave vodacom on such amicable terms?

mmm.... What next MTN's Phuthutma joins Telkom hehehe... Seriously, does Knott-Craig still have shares in Vodacom? Secondly, I take it there is no restraint of trade like MTN paid Phuthutma? Alan's success at vodacom was due to them being allowed to enter the market first rather than any brilliance on his part... I will eat my words if he turns Cell C around!

he was paid about 2 million a month advisory fee (so that he would not join Cell C) but the board kicked up a fuss if i remember correctly

He left because of health reasons - two heart attacks. He had a restraint of trade for three years and paid handsomely for that. That contract expires any month now.

according to the Sunday Times, since resigning from Vodacom he has had 3 heart attacks. So if he left Vodacom because of health reasons, why join Cell C as CEO now when he has more health problems?
