When are they going to make any announcements re: acquisitions? Only then will this share really take off...plenty of cash on balance sheet, but shareholders want acquisitions (and sure now is the time with most asset values depressed)?

agreed that the BTI holding is cash flow positive and a great holding for Rei, and hence share price being defensive with a positive bias...but for the share price to really take off, I want to see acquisitions....what I meant with asset classes being depressed, I am talking about quality business with very low PEs that add strategic value to shareholders (like a Remgro locally) and more offshore (for the rand hedge) - where valuations are cheap (vs historicals)...like property?

I sold all my REI and bought BTI about 9 months ago. When REI give some clear indication of what their plan is, I may get back in.

yes they very slow on the acquisition side...it seems the issue about them reducing their BTI holding has been forgotten...So far they look like they setting up deals that will bear fruit 10 years from now....

Consider this a private equity deal. Taht's what you are paying for - it you read their announcements it all indicates a well diversified portfolio. All the investments are 3 -5 years maybe longer but you are paying entry level prices - or at least you did when you paid R10 a share....Just accumulate - there is very little downside and steady growth - inflation beating. They don't just buy things because they are chaep.

you folks missing the point here .. BTI is 85% of REI .. so everything is frankly meaningless and if they doubled the cash pile by some clever deal REI wuld be worth about 5% more .. All you doing by holding REI is helping directors earn great salaries ..

You're also buying the BTI cashflow at a 15% discount, and getting some truely bombed out property assets in Florida (among others). This is a 5 year view share, and I prefer it to BTI.
