My sister and her hubby live in the UK and want to buy stock on the London Stock Exchange. They are starting to invest very late in life and will not be actively trading, they are wanting to buy blue chip and with a long term view. They have had a few financial planners call on them, but if they were to go the blue chip/long term route and not actively trade on a regular basis, would they perhaps be better off doing it themselves (that's if they have identified what stock they want) via on online trading site similar to OST but in the UK? If so could anyone perhaps suggest a few sites they could take look at? Your assistance and advice is greatly appreciated.

Have a look at the Exchange traded funds or traker funds, Very low cost, no managment fees. and a basket of shares so performances are smoothed. Look at ishares. IGmarkets. The FTSE is heavily weighted toward OIL shares and minning companies... all great buys long term.
