With sale of Franklins and some spare cash in the kitty looks like P&P will take over the BP downstream operation what with them disinvesting from the retail end of their business perhaps brought about by the Gulf debacle. Any views what this will do to the P&P share price. Speculate two

what makes you feel that PIK will takeover the downstream BP business? Surely that represents a classic dilution of focus? What do they know about that sort of business? Loik yer last me there a touch? I understood it was pith helmet time and into Africa- with I hear a focus on franchises - lower profit margins.....

Makes sense to me - oil is the major raw material in plastics, PIK utilise a lot of plastic in their operation (packaging etc.) why not vertically integrate? Also remember PIK also tried to get into petrol sales a while back, maybe purchasing an oil producer would give them better leverage on tackling the petrol market. Remember you heard it first here - PIK to make a bid for BP! Is this how rumours start?

My reply was very tongue in cheek. But PIK taking over BP's RSA "retail" outlets (Petrol stations and BP Express Shops) perhaps that is not so far fetched.
