Been hearing comments about the BDI crashing big time. Down to levels last seen in the 1940's. Are these just rumours? Does the BDI influence the market? The mainstream media seem to be quiet about this.

It is depressed, but not that bad. Sitting at 2005 levels right now, from what I can see, and 100% up from early 2009 lows. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/quote?ticker=BDIY:IND

Will say one thing though, this doesn't bode well for Grindrod. They might not be affected short term, because of their contract cover, but they will have to start negotiating 2011 contracts soon, and the price for those just gets lower and lower! Coupled with a strong rand and increasing oil price (direct cost of sale). And the charts look ominous too, with a decending triangle formation
