lol - good answers but technically not true. The banking sector ran hard on the good rand and high gold price. Now that the gold price is off and oil is on a high the rand is in troublr again. Add to that slowdown fears and there you have it. The higher interest rates should actually be good for us as they make overseas investors drool for Govt Bonds and Money Market investments. There we are losing out because of the local politics and other stupidities.

and the Expropriation Bill,..!?!? i mean,. if 47% of ABSA's book is in the Home Mortgage market,.. adding Expropriation fears into the mix would also reek heavy damage not so,.. Also,. is the Financial Sector not at the brunt of any red on the exchange, seeing as all funds are indeed held by the banks?,..

Lets check the Banking index closing. were on critical support here. Next stop 20000 if it doesnt hold here.

Look at the technicals of the banking sector and you'll know why. Call the low on this one and get burned to a crisp. I think we will see a nice dead cat bounce soon before they head even lower. omo
