Should one have a short position and want to change to a long position is it acceptable to double your current holding to enable the new holding. In other words if i hold 100 shares in a short position and would like to change this position to 100 in a long can i buy 200 shares.

Wouldnt this be a waste considering u now have 300 shares, just to hold a 100 share long position, surly the opertunity cost of the captital should be considerd ?

your short positions will be automatically closed, therefore leaving you only the 100 longs
