Back then there was no Ben to look after Wall Street. He hired every helicopter on the planet and used them to blow the storm across the Atlantic. The Banksters put a news black out on it.

THE LEGACY OF THE '87 CRASH Bruce Bartlett: What the 1987 crash ultimately accomplished was to teach politicians that markets heed their words and actions carefully, reacting immediately when threatened. Thus the crash initiated a new era of market discipline on bad economic policy.

Is their economic policy really so bad? Their politics is bad, their foreign policy is bad and lord knows their war mongering, in country fiddling is bad (foreign policy again), but apart from a rediculous budget on defence (which includes war), are they really that bad? They are making a bet that economic growth will cut the deficit, and that by raising taxes, economic growth will falter.
