Why has Altria spun off Philip morris and Rembrant spun off British American Tobacco at this time...these companies print money..Why..what is the logic behind such a move

Don't know about Altria but in Remgro/Richemont case it was a change in the Luxemburg tax legislation - from next year dividends from BAT could no longer pass untaxed through the LUX holding company

Can't see two of the three largest tobacco companies merging or acquiring each other. Competitions commissions will squash an attempt like that like a bug.
