John, friends of mine bought an R1, 1 mil property for R700 000 as an investment directly from a bank via an attorney friend they knew. It seems that so many properties are repo's that banks let these properties go without it even reaching auctions. You put in a bid, and if the bank accepts it's yours. Their first bit was R 603 000 and somebody topped it, so their second bit was accepted. You need to phone around at bit. Some attorneys get lists from banks of repos. They're getting R7 500 rent a month for an R 700 000 investment. Not too shabby.

A colleugue of mine thats specialises in insolvency law has quite a few properties in insolvent estates in the Cape Town area. Know there's Props in Hout Bay, Blouberg and Grotto Bay (wherever that may be) areas. He can problably pick up the propeties for 50-65% of value.
