Was reading news24 and came across the exceptional logics at Eishkom...am still amazed by it... Eskom halts coal delivery Aug 7 2008 12:19PM Johannesburg - South African power utility Eskom on Thursday said the suspension of coal deliveries after the rise in road accidents would not affect electricity supplies. Some 133 700 metric tons of coal is transported in 1 500 trucks to 11 power stations across the country every day. But the state-owned utility announced its decision to halt deliveries for 24 hours following the rise in the number of road accidents in the last month. "During the past month, a total of 55 accidents were reported in which 16 people were fatally injured," Eskom said in a statement. Eskom said coal stockpiles at its power stations were at an average of 25.7 days and the suspension of coal deliveries for the 24 hours would reduce the stockpiles by no more than two system days.
