Iwould like to invest in property and prefers the listed property market to owning physical property. I like Redefine, any comments and suggestions as I am a relative new investor.

Have you looked at the PTXSPY Prop Trax ETF to get a spread?

I would not touch property - we have probably bottomed in the interest rate cycle and next move might be up. Also a glut of property out there and an over- indebted public. Retail and Commercial also a glut of availability with many shopping centres with empty stores. (http://www.realestateweb.co.za/realestateweb/view/realestateweb/en/page197?oid=36286&sn=Detail) P roperty had its time in the son - and that time is now over. Buy gold, short-dated retail bonds (http://www.rsaretailbonds.gov.za/) or stay in cash Kick (http://saequities.blogspot.com/)

Actually for the brave and contrarian consider DBXJP - etf on Japanese Equities. Rand hedge and the Nikki has been in the dumps for the past 20 years Kick (http://saequities.blogspot.com/)

Redefine been a bit dissapointing of late, significantly underperforming the property sector on the whole. Maybe the Hyprop acquisition can change this. Also check out Reinet, which since they have dumped their BAT holding, they have been steadily plowing their cash into US properties, although I don't think they are planning to offer any kind of yield

Personally I quite like GrowthPoint (GRT). They have a good track record, steady growth, and they own a lot of malls and complexes that are famous. It seems they are also busy with a big deal on the V&A Waterfront

Listed Prop has performed well since 2000 with exception of 2001 (7.9) and 2008 (-9.71%). All other years are above 15% Plus. In 2010 it was 25.5% ... information courtesy of SIM (Sanlam)
