MY Specialist Watchlist

On August 1,this share would have been on my watchlist one year.It has at this moment performed the best of the eight shares on the watchlist as it is now up 73%.Besides REIT all the shares pay dividends. There is now an article on MONEYWEB that claims we have all become speculators as we hold shares for very short periods. This was true in my case as well. How ever I am making an effort to return to the older method of holding shares for longer. In the old days I held shares up to five years and traded much more successfully than now....http://sashares2010.blogspot.com

One can argue that we are not speculating, but just more responsive to the performance of the share. When a share is losing value, it makes no sense to hold on past your stop loss point.

Yes ,thats also true.In those days one had to trade through a broker and had no control over most of the aspects of trading. How ever perhaps we are too trigger happy now.

I try to hold shares for several years, and I've held GND for 7 years now. In hindsight, I'd have done better to sell in 2008 and buy again in 2011, but that would be impossibly perfect. Could well hold for another 7 if GND continues its improvement.

I've taken some profit on Steinhoff (brought at R7, lightened at R26) since it's European arm is still being bedded down. It's also now exposed to some other areas like transportation that I've already got exposure to. So a bit of rebalancing. I'm nibbling at Investec now.

Thanks .Investec would be a good choice in my top 40 list. They have had their problems in the past, but always seem to be on top of every thing. They certainly know how to sweat assets.
