Asked for the forums advise a while ago about which subjects to take in order to pave my way into senior management one day...I have decided that maybe its a good idea to take on an additional subject of study to compliment my Small Business Management Diploma. Like i said before i plan to study my Bcom then MBA. But in the interim im considering what i could study that put me a step ahead of others, but at the same time, not disturb my current studies. My choices are: Management Certificate or full programme - Intec, Corporate Governance and Risk Management - Milpark Business School...if you guys have any other suggestions please feel free..thanks again, and sorry for being such a pain about this, but its really important to plan ahead! PROPERLY

I'm no expert, but I'd stay away from Certificates if I were choosing. Bcomm/MBA should do well. Even better is CA/MBA (if you really want to get ahead). Also look at CFA if financial markets interest you. I know some fellas that are doing very well with BComm/CFA.

Best studies ever, is to learn "how to make money, quickly and effectively". Trust yourself to achieve that objective. Studies can only get you so far in life. Second tip, if and when the gold price drop below $500 , invest in some Krugerrand and keep them for a rainy day. Thirdly ,always think "compound interest".

Thanks for your responses. GL just out of curiosity, why would you stay away from certificates?

im finishing my honours in business management and was really interested doing the CFA course. however some people have suggested i do the registered person examinations (RPE) as it will not take as long to complete and i can choose which areas to study..has anyone completed these RPE's? Are they worth it?

Am in education - senior management in what field? That will determine what area u should proceed in...What career do u want to follow.

Dont do a cerficate .If you want to go into the Investment field CFA is the best qualification(need a B.comm first).I work for an Hedge Fund in the Uk and most fund managers dont have CFa but if you want to have an competitive advantage get CFA as should open doors. That being said it does not mean that you will land a good job with CFA,as comes alot down to who u know instead of what u know.Cfa is tough an dyou need to have a good mathematical understanding I for one am sorry that I did not do my CFA when still in study loop at Stellenbosch as it is very difficult to do now due to lack of time and find it difficult to focus on academic stuff. My point get the academic stuff over with and then hit the real world with it.

Generally, Corporate Gov & Risk Man is only worth it if you plan a career in compliance. Certificates put you above the next recently matriculated person, but experience remains the real key - you still running that little business? How's that going? Focus on that rather, get something rounded in business and finance. The Risk Management and Corp Gov certificate content is mostly covered in your general management module and Corporate Law/Companies Law module of the BCom you're planning - so you're wasting - unless you want a career in compliance.

saash thanks for the reply! The business is still operating, my only issue with this is that i cannot expand the way id like to, as my gran is still 'holding onto power'but im trying to get around that, as i have been thinking of reworking the expansion plans completly. I am also hoping that i get the chance to work together with a couple of guys who have started an investment fund, as a 'junior' property manager. they were pretty impressed with my credentials, so i hope they get back to me, they havent replied to my mail though...hmmm...anyway i am trying not to be stubborn, and will consider all what has been said in this thread, as obviously chances are, u guys know what u talking about lol. im still on for the Bcom - MBA route although the old man doesnt like the idea of the Bcom - apparently its TOO GENERAL! i need to specialise
