Presuming that when a company is set to pay its divident to shareholders, then as a result of the div payment the shareprice will drop accordingly. Wouldnt it be an oppertunity to take a few short SSF contracts over the anticipated drop in share price and make a small profit?

No. Dividend is priced into the SSF.
