Retrenchments

Reply
Not applicable
Anyone noticed how many companies have retrenched over the past 1-2 years?
Coca Cola
MTN
JP Morgan
Nokia
Standard Charter
Telkom
Sibanye Gold
Amplats
ArcelorMittal
Avon
Renault
Royal Bank of Scotland

These are amongst others.
What I dont understand is that Yellen keeps saying unemployment is falling and a lot of companies retrenching are from the US.

Just some food for thought...

The other side of the coin is..what is it that all these companies see in the future that the media doesnt?

i beleive we are in the middle of a technological revolution that is shedding jobs.the industrial revolution did similar and the transfer of labour from agriculture to industry caused a lot of unemployment who eventually found some empolyment in industry.I am not sure what the future holds in terms of empolyment but the days of having a degree and that guaranteed a job (more or less) are over.its vexing but I do not beleive it threatens business as long as they change.it could threaten stability as people trapped in poverty have nothing to lose>u could debate this for hours
