Sector for the year

Early 2012 the punters were looking at construction stock as a major player for the year. Does anyone know how has the sector done? There are expectation on resources, despite ongoing industrial actions and suspension of operations in some companies. Could those expectation be based on price (currently looking cheap) or quality in which I struggle to see? Is China going to be the sactor's saviour or the internal challenges might dominate the year.
