Simon.. not true if you day trade with a good broker. You can have margin limits set which can protect you (and him).

yes(ish) .. an over night gap of massive proportions can certainly be more than your margin. And yes an up gap of 2,000 points is unlikely so less worry if short .. but if long an overnight US crash will ruin your morning ..

an not saying ALSI a bad product, it the best product for a zalander to trade, but their are risks that need to be understood ..

Out of interest, what would DWT do to your position if you had to make a margin call - would they close it out automatically?

they would likely close, but most brokers only do margin calls next morning using previous MTM ..

That would depend on the agreement you have with them...they will protect their own interest thats for sure. Margin requirements can be adjusted so If you are worried and want to be safe the margin can be set higher so that the actual system (they have a free system called swordfish) will not allow you to take on excessive gearing.
