Takeover of smaller firm

I need to ask this question to any experienced traders out there. If I buy stock in a firm that is about to sell ALL its assets to another company (larger company) would I be reimbursed for the shares I still own or will I just loose all my money and the shares I bought ? Will the shares in the smaller company just get suspended or how does it work exactly ?? Thanks Hen
