Hi I've go a potentially silly question. I'm not trader but rather a long term investor. If I bought something too early say 2000 Altron shares at R30 and I bought another 1000 at R21 now for an average purchase price of R27 and sell these (short term) at R26 for a profit of 23% (on the 1000) will this transaction trigger any tax implication? I made a paper loss on Altron but a profit on this transaction and would I be able to offset this loss (capital) against any capital gains? I'll only do this with a share that I'm happy to hang onto longer term so if Altron doesn't go up short term its not a problem and yes I know they came out with a bad trading statement yesterday. I would consider this with Mutual as well between lower R7 and close to R9 but this would be higher risk with the uncertainty regards US exposure.
