Does any one know what the effect of the telkom special dividend will be on their share price and how does a special div work do you have to own the share before ex-div date and keep it till payment date to receive the dividend.

In theory the share price should drop by the same amount as the dividend (but not always the case - GND traded higher after their last div). You have to own the shares on or before the LDT.

The Telkom share price should drop twice. Once on Monday (unbundling, guessing about 30%) and again after the divi payment (down by roughly R19), but will recover to fair market value within the coming days/months.

Just remember the divi and the estimated Vodacom price is factored in already. If you buy your telkom shares today, you are buying them for first dibs on Vodacom, don't expect any bargains though.
