Hmmm, Some shareholders must have know about the pending UBS report ahead of its release? That explains the 8% drop this week.

Sorry not a report, but a downgrade / drop from TEl. list: "MTN Group (JSE:MTN), Africa's largest mobile-network operator, fell to the lowest since May in Johannesburg trading after UBS AG removed the company from its top telecommunications stock picks"

Insignificant report, MTN is far greater than just one country so no worries.

I would go along with that! I think this one has upside potential.

In Nigeria like SA they going to institute laws that will force every sim card to be linked to a physical address, that has got to affect there sales, at least short term, until the loop holes are worked out!

Tis not just about the report. The report speeded things up. The drop prior to the report was not an earlier release of the report but rather others coming to similar conclusions. Tis the death of the darling, and a more realistic take on the company. Which doesn't mean to say it will plummit, just that it has lost its youthful looks and is now being treated like any other share.

The upside will come in March when we see the Iran numbers coming out... Nigeria is big but Iran is going to be bigger (if they aren't bombed out of existence). They have higher ARUP's there. I would also say that it is a good buy for any operator wanting to expand its business and the MTN board are still "getting offers" ...

What is the reason why they keep trying to sell themselves? Are they trying to get ahead of an expected market consolidation, or what?

How about they start paying shareholders a decent dividend ??

Ooh, no. 'Growth' companies just pay themselves more options and look around urgently for more places to grow. Divs are for...cement companies.

Let's talk again in a few months time. Wait for MTN to reach undervalue pricing and watch how savvy investors pile in. No use writing off a top 40 stock making a R1 bil + a month profit because it's not the flavour of the day.
