Hi Guys, Anybody have any opinions on this course? I thinking of doing it (purely to get more solid knowledge for building and managing my own portfolio) just working out if the R6000 would be well spent or not.

It is Unisa, rather do CFA if want to go into Industry. For own use I would say take take out some good books or read up on the thoery and start applying what you know practically

the RPE course in equities offered by SAIFM is a better bet as it is the entrance requirement into formal trading should you so wish. There are also a myriad of other courses (bonds, futures, etc)all of which enable you to become a registered licensed trader.....also much cheaper. Check www.saifm.co.za

You have to have a degree at least to write CFA.Dont under estimate how much you can teach yourself if you listen, read and have a genuine interest in the subject. My thing with this trading etc is that ultimely we are all in kind of for the money, but that should not be driving factor as having a passion for the markets like Chartist or even simon Pb and others will help.It will make you look at the markets when things are not going too well and you can never learn and know enough.I think you kind of go thru stages,Well I did.You go from picking a share cause david shapiro liked it on CNBC ,or common sense tells you this or cause you like the name to doing your own TA,Fa .Point is most importantly you learn your own strategy. So books can help courses can help but sure aint mean you going to make more money.decide what you want, then see if doing this course will help or just be a supplenment to your strategy.Another thing understand if you are a trader or investor, makes huge differnce

Hi Dinen - are you back in the saddle then? Where's Goldilocks? nice to see a few old faces around here. I haven't been trading anything with leverage for a while, haven't been hanging out on the boards.

Both art & science. Not hard work in my books, rather commitment...

it is neither an art or a science ...it is a journey. Sounds like some soppy drivel on a greeting card but it really is. It is much more about learning about your self than about other things. Its a lonely journey cause only other traders will understand you....your spouse wont, your friends wont...they will nod knowingly as you try and tell them what you do but they wont have any insight. The principles in trading are really really simple....so is TA....the only people who complicate it are the vendors of courses and the pedlar's of TA analysis

Ja, when I tell friends and family about my trading, the general response is: "The stock market is only meant for people that really know what they're doing..." and the expression on their faces show that they don't think I'm one of those people...
