Why Construction is slow

Construction co's complain about infrastructure spend, layoffs, etc. On a trip from DBN to the airport there are 3 major road constructions on the go - most have been going on forever (Umgeni in particular - 4 years), hardly any workers or equipment on any of them. Why not - get a move on - bring in "short-time workers and underutilised equipment" and speed up these projects. As a rate and taxpayer when I see these projects (with major contractor co's working on them)going so slowly with so little resource..what happens if the economy does ever get going? Construction co's seemed to have lost their mojo - ability to get things done quickly. Chinese co's will soon take their place.... Seperately DUBE trade port - just weeds....very sad ...investors not interested in what is a very convenient location

you assume of course that the provincial government in that part of the world is meeting their payment milestone objectives right?

the Umgeni project is actually at teh very low work stage as they use that fancy bridge building thingy .. and they could do a heck lot faster, complete it in a year, if they just closed the N2 under the new bridge .. in short, not so simple

Umgeni is a real disaster - catastrophic on-going congestion, they should be working 24/7 to resolve....at this rate it could take 10 years to complete (4 down already). Once this one is complete Gateway turnoff is next.....maybe co's should look at doing a JHB and going back to town? The biggest Co. in Umhlanga is seriously considering this....get staff out of their prissy offices and see how Africa is working. The scary thing is the bridge looks a tad low (coming from S side)...some big truck (over loaded) is going to "re-engineer" this one once it is complete!

The bridge is reinforced and the truck will have some damage, but the real damage goes to the car or bike behind the truck!!!!
