Why are trades 17:00 so big amount??

Has any1 noticed that the last trades at 17:00 on most TOP40 shares are always Massive? Really curious as to why this is. appreciate comments on this.

Hi Anthony the market goes into closing auction a 4.50 pm everyday and all transactions are then updated a 5.00pm. So traders are still bidding for 10 minutes while market is in auction.

The closing auction is usually when the big boys buy and sell large amounts due to the volume traded.

Thanks I guess that explains it. so is is a good stradegy then to follow the big boys and trade in closing auction? (maybe the game is to gain the gap in the morning if the dow ends in green after we close.) appreciate comments.
