This is a surprising reaction by the forum. The swine flu outbreak could cause world wide financial davastation. This new flu causes an unusually high percentage of deaths, and is readily transmitted between humans. It is a new strain, a mixture of human, pig, and bird flu. No one has any natural immunity against it, neither has anyone been vaccinated against it. Fortunately, this is not the feared H5N1 virus, but it is a serious threat.
hahahah. Yeah markets jumped so far, was on a knife edge any news has been interesting to watch the result on the Dow. Now the swine flu comes as an excuse for everyone to short, no more of that better then expected profit nonsense.
Before we all get carried away, the world is not what it was in the last century, and we are far better equipped to handle this sort of epidemic. The speed in identifying the problem, and the action taken proves the point.Could be an opportunity to get into some pharmaceutical stocks however.
Everyone seems to miss the point. The flu pandemic has just started in Mexico during the last few days. It has alredy been spread to many countries. It cannot be contained any more. The World health organisation thinks it is a serious threat. The deaths have not started in the other countries yet, it takes a day or two to die of flu. True, Medical technology has improved, but so has public transport. During the last serious pandemic, public transport was slow / just abbout non existent between continents. Now the virus spreads all over the world in a matter of days. All depends on the virulence of the virus. If it is as potent as the 1918 virus, millions will die, in spite of all efforts to contain the disease.
