Asylum, my strategy is to first determine what price YOU are prepared to pay for a stock you have yr eye on. Then if it hits that price, whether in a dip or as part of a downward trend, then buy. That way YOU are satisfied that you paid a good price. Yes, it is true that MAYBE you could have bought it cheaper, but then again it could have been a temporary dip & the price takes 20 years to get back to a level you are prepared to pay. On the falling knife - If you have done the research & scrutinized & analyzed the fundamentals of a company & you are happy that it has long term sustainable growth prospects, then buy & keep buying as the price falls. Maybe a good idea to look at the the charts to see where in the cycle its movements are ( it may be that it looks as if it will still fall, then place a trade at 5% or 10% lower than ruling & take a chance on a further fall)but if you have bought at a level that is "cheap" then over the longer term, it matters not whether you could have bought at R10 cheaper or not as a good stock will climb in value, pay you dividends & be a blessing to your portfolio. Um...could be. Just make sure you keep dry powder for when everyone is *really* fearful. This is just a bit fearful.

Short term traders see falling knives, investors see falling cash. Gotta love it.
