Would the IBM piece of news be the reason for the US futures rally and the ALSI rally at around 2pm? Or has some other news been released?

IBM, PC sales being strong is an important indicator of economic strength (or perceived strength). People/companies not going to upgrade if they worried about tough times ahead. But of course with all theories there are holes, so not gospel but certainly got a very negative market all excited.

ya but the theory goes that in a bear market good news is ignored and bad news punished. An in a bull good news celebrated and bad ignored. Surprised to see how excited the markets got on one little piece of good news.

retail sales for December are both released at 8:30 a.m. New York time. Retail sales are expected to be down 0.1 percent, if forecast are lower than expected and citi reporting massive losses the dow could be under pressure this afternoon. Yes/No?
