Yes, they need money to spend, and lots of it, approx 70% of their economy depends on consumption. This is also why China and others want to pour in billions to USA cash strung banks so that Americans can continue buying the outsourced production goods in the hands of Asia - Ha Ha Ha the money goes back to the lenders anyhow, while debt is simply increased. Should the not accept outside assistance they will need to print more dollars.

The world pays to keep the Americans in the style to which they have become accustomed - failing which we could loose a large part of the estimated 20% they contribute to the world economy.
