The paradox by which a Social Democratic Government allows itself and the capitalist cash-boxes to be defended by royalist officers and unemployed on the dole is altogether too crazy. - Harry Kessler - of The German Foreign Office on the Weimar Republic's formation in 1919. Insightful view on what was to end in Hitler's assumption of total control under the Fire Decree of 1933.

If you have looked at SA's constitutional history then you will be struck by the parallel between recent events and the approach of the Nats to calls to morality , their venomous desire to remove the constitutional entrenched voting clauses at whatever the cost - including their own integrity - it just went on and on - high court of Parliament Harris and other cases - where the Nats attempted to bypass the constitution, effectively ignoring it , re- engineer the Bench and remove entrenched rights. The recent ducking an diving and avoidance of responsibility - bifurcation and committees as well as the refusal to deal with Moral issues - has just been repeated. The challenge of the Churches was ignored by the likes of the PW Botha's of this World - and just like Cyril he wanted the churches to pray for them but not to challenge them on moral issues ...plus ca change...Hooray for what we have just seen happen....
