Because Standard Bank itself, does not own enough script to provided you with more contracts. The bank cannot lend money on cfd to you ,that its does not own the script to, it will then be unsecure lending. The risk to the bank too great.

Yes, maybe in a way, STD can always buy more shares on the open market and then increase the cfd exposure, but I assume chose not do so.

no, SB only buy the underlying share when you buy the CFD, they buy as hedge and don't otherwise hold the share .. it not being tradable could be for many reasons, liquidity risk etc.

...bit of a dog with some brands in "health care" (supplements)that will be more and more regulated. They talk this one up but hopefully investors don't get scammed.
